It took several years but Sarah eventually made up her mind that she had enough with her husband's unhealthy drinking. She was worn-out from seeing Keith come home early in the morning from drinking rather than spending much needed time with the family. She was also fed up from the third DUI Keith recently received. In addition she was exhausted from generating reasons for her husband when he couldn't show up for work on time due to his hazardous drinking.
In a similar manner, she was apprehensive about the fact that their relationship was deteriorating due to Keith's hazardous and excessive drinking. And lastly she was worn-out from the perilous financial dilemma into which he had put his family due to his unhealthy drinking behavior.
One Thursday evening when Sarah was thinking about what she could do about her husband's abusive and excessive drinking, she got to the point that she frankly had to do something to cut into the damaging cycle of Keith's careless and hazardous drinking behavior. So Sarah looked online under "alcohol rehab" and located numerous treatment centers that were all located less than 15 miles away from where her husband and she lived.
When Sarah called each rehab clinic she identified who she was and said that Keith, her husband, was engaging in unhealthy drinking behavior. She also mentioned that her spouse had a top quality health insurance program at his job and that outpatient or inpatient alcohol treatment would be covered if a physician in the company health program recommended the rehabilitation.
After listening to Sarah go over her husband's abusive and excessive drinking, the psychologist in an accommodating but firm way told Sarah how she probably played a major role in her spouse's careless and hazardous drinking through the months and the years. How? Mainly by rationalizing his drinking rather than allowing him to go through the results of his excessive and hazardous drinking behavior.
Stated differently, the doctor told Sarah that she may have been unintentionally enabling Keith's careless drinking behavior. The physician also underscored the point that Sarah would not be able to control her husband's actions. With the support and encouragement of the rehab team at the rehab facility, nevertheless, she would not only be able to learn how to avoid contributing to Keith's excessive and unhealthy drinking but she could also learn how to help him schedule an appointment at the rehab facility so that he could discuss his hazardous and careless drinking healthcare practitioner.
The good news was that after Sarah explained this to her husband and he saw that she was serious, he told her that he had been extremely worried about his excessive and unhealthy drinking behavior and that he was very pleased to realize that Sarah wanted to do something beneficial about his excessive and careless drinking behavior. As a consequence, he scheduled an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol rehab center.
While simply calling a treatment facility does not ensure that a person's careless and excessive drinking behavior will end or that an individual will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, scheduling an appointment is undeniably a crucial feature in the rehabilitation process. And because Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting rehabilitation for his careless and hazardous drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was significantly augmented.
