It's become evident that in America, the one big thing that does dampen your financial success is not a handicap, drug addiction, or illness, but believe it or not, being a single mum. Single mothers can land in this category through divorce, death, or by choice, but these are not the essential reasons why an unwed mum has a limited income. The main reason for this is because of an inherent bias and prejudice in American business that removes single mums rights, and discriminates brazenly against them.
Many single mums have been too exhausted and over worked to notice this trend, but now this is gearing up to be the main element in the fight for single mums rights. We live in a society that demands that in order to become accomplished at our profession we have to play the corporate game, get better jobs, work hard to earn more money so that we can send our kids to college. However, this only works if you are married.
Should you be a single mother, the impression is that you are a business risk, and in a few states, it is fair to ask for the marital status of a job applicant, and find out how many kids there are. Business owners claim this allows them to reject single mums, and therefore avoid paying health care costs for their kids. Or, if they do happen to employ them, to deliberately pay them less to make up for anticipated health care expenses. Yet, because it is legal, this is not seen as discrimination. That this form of discrimination is allowed to be practiced in the United States has most single mums outraged.
Single mothers were asked to get off welfare and rejoin the workforce, but the workforce is absolutely campaigning against them. Many single moms work more than ten hours a day to provide for their young ones, with minimal help from the state or deadbeat dads. Yet, they are employed at a lower rate of pay than single or married women, provided that they are employed in the first place. They have hardly any support and have to engage someone to care for the children when they are working. If they have an accident, the situation becomes desperate, both in terms of income and care for the kids.
A past government census return showed that over 10 million single mothers live in America. Many of these single moms are getting together in local organizations to help fight for single mums rights. Child care centers, counseling and financial advice are some of the good points about joining one of these groups. Some single mums are petitioning members of congress to revoke laws that make it acceptable to ask for a mother's marital status or if she has children. There are grass roots movements of single mums in nearly every community across the country that are fighting for single mums rights, so that all single mothers like themselves, will find justice at work.
Are You Trying To Find Homes To Buy For Single Mums While some single mums bring home quite a reasonable income, a great deal of single mothers are struggling financially. Adding insult to injury are the inequities in pay, and discrimination by the establishment against single parents, the very people who must provide a good home for their kids.
Help For Single Mums Is Out There If You Are Prepared To Look The Federal government made it obvious that they wished to stop the welfare mum culture and urge single mothers to go back to work. To achieve this, they limited welfare for single mothers and enforced programs and tactics to reward single mothers for working.
